What is the New York Region Social Security Management Society?

The New York Region Management Society is an organization of field and TSC management in the New York Region operating as a group to enhance and improve the overall operations of the social security program.  It is an additional avenue of communication to both regional and central office.  It serves all field and TSC management personnel within the New York Region in conveying constructive ideas and comments on proposed changes to the regional and central offices.  It is a formally constituted non-profit organization with By-Laws, and recognized by SSA as one of the important lines of communication within the administration.  We are a member of the National Council of Social Security Management Associations (NCSSMA.)

How does the Society operate?

The Society has an Executive Committee (EC) consisting of the President, Vice-President, Area Vice Presidents, Secretary, Treasurer, four Members-at-Large, and the immediate Past President (without vote.)  These officers are elected by the general membership and serve two year terms.  A meeting of the general membership is held annually.  The entire EC meets at least quarterly to conduct internal business affairs, and the President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer and two other members meet quarterly with Regional officials to discuss pertinent matters of concern.

How do I join the Society?

Membership in the Society is open to all field office and teleservice center employees designated as supervisors or management personnel in the New York Region. Associate membership will be offered to individuals who were formerly members of NYRMS, in good standing, and who have assumed other Social Security positions within the region. They cannot vote or hold office.  Dues are $5.50 a pay period, payable by payroll deductions.  To join, simply complete a membership application and an SF-1187.  You will immediately be added to our mailing list and receive additional information.
