Travel less than a mile east to the lakefront of Lake Michigan.  Plan to dine lakeside at the "Coast" restaurant one of Milwaukee’s fine seafood restaurants tucked between the Milwaukee Art Museum and Pier Wisconsin. After lunch, you are free to explore the countless attractions of the lakefront.  The Milwaukee Art Museum features the first Santiago Calatrava-designed building in the United States which features a 90-foot high glass-walled reception hall enclosed by the Burke Brise Soleil, a sunscreen that can be raised or lowered creating a unique moving sculpture.  The museum is open until 7:00 pm on Thursday evenings.

Pier Wisconsin, which opens this summer, features an aquarium, the Discovery World museum and a living history of the Great Lakes.

(Please note that there are separate admission charges to the Milwaukee Art Museum and to Pier Wisconsin.)

You can explore the Milwaukee’s beautiful lakefront by following the winding paths that follow the sandy beach.  Bicycle, roller blade and kite rentals are available as well as pontoon boats at the lagoon.  You are free to return to the hotel at your own pace.

Other opportunities as you make your way back to the hotel include the Edelweiss Boat Cruises that dock on the Milwaukee River at Old World Third Street and Juneau.  From 2:00-3:00 p.m., there is a sightseeing tour along the Milwaukee River and harbor and the shoreline of Lake Michigan.  Tickets are $10.  Too early??  From 5:30-7:00 p.m., the Edelweiss offers a Happy Hour Cruise which includes pizza buffet and beer.
