NCSSMA Welcome to Denver As host of NCSSMA's 33rd Annual Meeting, we are very pleased to welcome you to the Denver Region and to Denver itself, where skies are bluer, mountains are higher, and the sun shines brighter. During your stay in the beautiful Mile High City, the Host Committee has planned a few adventures for you. However, we also hope you will take time on your own to enjoy many more of Denver’s offerings such as the Performing Arts Center, Six Flags Elitch Gardens, U. S. Mint, Cherry Creek and 16th St Malls, theatres, boutiques and numerous golf courses. The 16th St Mall, just two blocks from the hotel, is a pedestrian mall that transverses the city, and has free bus service. We know your visit will be a memorable one. Hotel You will enjoy your stay at the Embassy Suites, located at 1881 Curtis St. Denver CO 80202. The suite rates are $115 single, $135 double, $155 triple or $175 for a quad. These rates are good Saturday the 5th through Sunday the 13th . Per diem is $112/$42. Valet parking is available for $10 a day plus tip, which is a steal. The rooms have two line phones with dataports. The hotel has a nice fitness room and an outdoor heated pool. There is a free full breakfast provided daily. Free cocktails and hors d’oeuvres are served from 5:30 to 7:30 each evening. We ask that you contact the hotel directly to make your reservations at 1-800-733-3366 or 303-297-8888. Make sure to tell them that you are with the National Council Social Security Management Association. Reservations must be made by August 31. By Air Denver’s new International Airport is located 35 miles northeast of the city. Most other airlines have some flights coming in to this United Airlines hub. We have not contracted an airline for our meeting but we recommend that you make your choice and ask for a government fare. Make sure to catch the Super Shuttle (every 15 minutes) from the airport because the taxi charge is $55. The Shuttle is $18 one way or the roundtrip is $32. It delivers to and picks up from the Embassy Suites. By Auto From I-70 go to I-25 South, from I-25 South, exit onto 20th Street South, exit #212C, turn right on Larimer Street, turn left on 17th Street and turn left on Curtis Street. Embassy Suites entrance is 1½ blocks on the left. Please follow these directions carefully since there are lots of one way streets in the downtown area. Temperature and Attire The average temperature for the middle of October is 51 degrees with an average high of 64 and low of 37. Attire for outside tours is casual with good walking shoes. Bring a sweater or a jacket. Remember to drink a lot more water and take a slower pace, to help compensate for the higher altitude. If there is anything that the Host Committee or I can do to make your stay in Denver more enjoyable, please let us know. We look forward to seeing you!
